Philadelphia Quarry Guest Rules

Be a Gracious Quarry Host

1. Sign in with the attendant upon arrival. It's important that we maintain a complete list of individuals on Quarry property, in the event of an emergency. Members who fail to sign in a guest may lose their guest privileges.

2. All guests, including out-of-town houseguests, must be accompanied by a member age 14 or older at all times. Children under 14 years of age must be supervised by an adult member, age 18 or older, while on Quarry Club grounds. Attendants are not permitted to babysit children.

3. Each family membership may invite 5 guests in a single week, beginning on Sunday. Please coordinate invitations extended by members of your household to avoid exceeding guest limits. There is no fee for guests.

4. An individual guest may not visit the Quarry more than 5 times during the summer season, regardless of their host or hostess. This includes members of a household or family member who elected not to join the Club.

5. For out-of-town houseguests who wish to use visit the Quarry more than the allotted 5 times per season, Members may pay $10 per person per week. These houseguests are excused from the “5 visits per week” rule (see #3) or “five visits per summer” rule (see #4) providing the $10 fee has been paid to the attendants on duty.
Guest Priviledges
1. An individual who acquires a share of stock is a Stockholder of the Philadelphia Quarry Corporation only. In order to become a member of the Philadelphia Quarry Club, he or she needs to be proposed for membership by a Stockholder Member. If approved, the individual’s name will be placed chronologically on the Waiting List.
2. The categories of membership are Stockholder Member, Stockholder Family Member, Summer Member, and Summer Family Member. Family Members include spouse and children living in the household who are under the age of 24 on April 1st of the upcoming season (rev. 6/20/18). Members of a family who choose not to become Family Members must follow the Guest Rules of the Quarry.
3. A Summer Member who acquires a share of stock automatically becomes a Stockholder Member and his or her family becomes Stockholder Family Members. A Stockholder Member who transfers their share of stock to a Summer Member or a non-member may switch their membership status to a Summer Member and their family to Summer Family Members. No action is necessary by the Membership Committee in either instance.
4. There are no dues for a Stockholder Member. Stockholder Family Members are not required to join each season, but they must pay dues during the seasons when they choose to join. The exception is a child who wants to continue their membership as a Legacy Summer Member as explained in Policy #12.
5. All Summer Members, including members of their family who choose to be Family Members, MUST pay dues annually without any lapse in membership in order to remain members. There is no out-of-town membership category.
If there is a lapse in dues, even for a year, of a Family Member, that individual must reapply if they want to become a member by submitting the request in writing to the Membership Committee, Philadelphia Quarry Club, P.O.Box 17212, Richmond, VA 23226 (rev. 8/11/15). The individual’s name is placed chronologically on the Waiting List; they do not need to be proposed again by a Stockholder Member.
6. When children reach the age of three, they must start paying dues in order to remain Stockholder or Summer Family Members.
7. When a Stockholder or Summer Member couple divorces, membership is extended to both parties. The spouse of a Stockholder Member will be offered Summer membership.
8. A fiancée of a member is not eligible for membership until the couple is married. Upon marriage, the membership is automatic.
9. Adult children, relatives, boyfriends, babysitters, roommates, nannies, etc. living in a member’s household may not be Family Members. They may only come as guests according to the Guest Rules of the Quarry. The exception to this policy is the dependent adult child who is truly dependent and incapable of living alone.
10. A caregiver for a dependent adult child or for a handicapped or elderly member may come as many times as necessary so long as they are acting in the capacity of a caregiver, not a guest.
11. If a former member of the Quarry wants to rejoin, he or she must be proposed for membership by a Stockholder Member. If approved, the individual’s name will be placed chronologically on the Waiting List.
12. Children may be Stockholder or Summer Family Members on their parents’ membership providing they are under the age of 24 on April 1st of the upcoming season (rev. 6/20/18). Older children who want to continue their membership in the Quarry are then eligible to become Summer Members automatically providing (i) they have maintained their Stockholder or Summer Family membership for the five preceding consecutive years, (ii) there has been no lapse in membership since reaching the age of 24, and (iii) they have submitted a completed Legacy Application for Summer Membership to the Treasurer.
13. Only Stockholder Members may propose an individual for membership in the Club. They may obtain an Application for Membership from the Quarry website.
Three letters of recommendation are also required to accompany the Application: one letter from the Stockholder Member proposing the Applicant, and two letters from other members of the Quarry (one of whom may be related to the Applicant
(rev. 6/20/18)). No member, or their family, may write letters for more than two Applicants per calendar year.
Completed Applications should be mailed to the Membership Committee. If approved, the Applicant’s name will be placed chronologically on the Waiting List.

Member and Guest Expectations
Each year, the Quarry's largest single expense is insurance coverage. Without this coverage, we couldn't operate. As a member, you can help keep us swimming safely by observing the following non-negotiables:
-
The Philadelphia Quarry DOES NOT PROVIDE LIFEGUARDS.
2. The Quarry is a natural body of dark water that poses hazards not associated with a standard swimming pool. The water's depth also requires our awareness and respect. All persons using the Club do so at their own risk.
3. Infants under 12 months of age are not allowed on the lower stone deck or in the water.
4. Novice swimmers are required to wear a U.S. Coast Guard Approved Life Jacket when on the lower stone deck or in the water. Inflatable devices, swimmies, bubbles, noodles, bathing suits with flotation inserts, etc. don't qualify. The Quarry does not supply life jackets, so we suggest purchasing one before the season begins. An adult who is a strong swimmer must supervise and be responsible for any novice or non-swimmer. This adult must be in the water or remain on the lower stone deck in close proximity. Non-swimmers may not go in the water.
5. Children under 14 years of age must be supervised by an adult member, age 18 or older, while on Quarry Club grounds. Attendants are not permitted to babysit or watch children.
6. Sign in with the attendant first-thing when you arrive. Sign-in is required for all members and their guests which indicates your acknowledgement that you and your guests are swimming at your own risk.

7. Dogs or other pets are not allowed on Club grounds. And please don't leave them in your car, ever. We love dogs, too.
8. Alcohol and deep water do not mix. Do not take alcoholic beverages onto the lower deck or into the water. The legal drinking age is 21, even on club grounds, no exceptions.
9. We expect all members and visitors to cooperate with the Quarry rules at all times and be aware of the dangers associated with swimming at the Philadelphia Quarry.
